Osmo Rocket VX 🚀

Osmo Rocket VX takes the original Osmo Rocket rig and gives it a new front design inspired by classic Sony VX camcorders. It keeps the same compact footprint, solid feel in the hand, and real-world usability, but adds a more iconic front shape and a dedicated magnetic filter mount for creators who love that vintage video vibe.

🎥 Modular Handle System

One of the core features of Osmo Rocket VX is the same swappable handle system you know from Osmo Rocket. You can configure the rig depending on your shooting style, from a classic camcorder feel to a more tactical, side-grip layout.

• Top handle for a traditional camcorder grip and low-angle moves.
• Side handles that can be mounted in two different angles, horizontal or tilted at 45°, so you can choose the grip that feels more natural.
• You can use only the top handle for a classic camcorder feel, only the side handles for a more tactical grip, or mount all three handles together in the same setup when you want maximum stability.

Inner Sliding Tray ⚡️

A centered sliding tray keeps the Pocket 3 perfectly aligned. The spring lock prevents accidental movement, and the integrated hook-and-loop straps are designed specifically to secure the official Pocket battery grip for longer, uninterrupted shooting sessions.

Cold Shoe System

Osmo Rocket VX includes two cold shoes so you can build a complete, compact shooting kit around the Pocket 3.

• Front cold shoe for a microphone or compact light.
• Rear cold shoe designed for a phone mount, enabling full remote control of the Pocket 3 from your smartphone. This improves visibility, framing, and overall shooting control.

VX Front Design & Filter Mount

The front shell of Osmo Rocket VX is shaped as a small tribute to the Sony VX era. It keeps the 82 mm front interface from the original rig and adds a dedicated magnetic mount for VX filters. You get that square camcorder-front look, with a clean way to run cinema-style filters on such a small camera.

Magnetic Filters Available

Osmo Rocket VX is made to work with a dedicated family of magnetic filters:

• CPL to reduce reflections and boost contrast.
• Variable ND I for general exposure control in bright light.
• Variable ND II for stronger light reduction when you want slower shutter speeds.
• Black Mist 1/4 to soften highlights and add a gentle, cinematic glow to the image.

The magnetic mount lets you swap filters fast, stack them when needed, and keep the rig ready for different looks. If you want the full experience, the complete VX filter set is a more convenient option than buying each filter separately.

82 mm Front Filter Thread

Under the VX front housing, Osmo Rocket VX keeps a standard 82 mm front filter thread. This means you can still use classic 82 mm cinema filters when you want, or combine the thread with adapters and other accessories in your existing kit.

DJI Action Compatibility (3–6)

Osmo Rocket VX is not only for the Pocket 3. It also includes a dedicated tray specifically designed for DJI Action cameras from model 3 to model 6.

DJI Action Magnetic Tray

This tray is a separate module built around the dimensions of the DJI Action series. It uses a quick-release magnetic attachment, so you can swap cameras instantly without tools or screws.

• No wobble, no adapters — the tray locks in tightly while staying easy to remove.

Compatibility

Osmo Rocket VX is designed around the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and supports DJI Action models 3 to 6 via the dedicated tray. The system keeps the same future-proof approach as Osmo Rocket, leaving room for new accessories and upgrades so your rig can evolve over time.

Polar White Limited Edition ❄️

Osmo Rocket VX is also available in a Polar White Limited Edition. This experimental colorway is a personal favorite of mine: it brings a clean, modern white finish that still feels connected to the vintage camcorder world. It is a small nod to old-school gear, reinterpreted for a compact digital rig.

Polar White units are produced in limited batches, so availability may change over time.

🔥 Overheating? Here Are Some Tips

• Lower screen brightness to reduce heat.
• Use reliable 64–128 GB Micro SD cards.
• Drop to 2.7K, 1080p, or 24–30 fps when possible.
• Rotate the screen horizontally to improve airflow.
• Set a fast screen timeout.
• Control the camera from your phone to keep the display off.

How to Avoid Frame Shadows

• Slightly zoom in to remove the rim from the field of view.
• Use smooth lateral movement instead of wide, fast swings.

Why a Rig Changes Everything ✨

For me, a rig is an extension of the camera, not just an accessory. It changes how you hold it, how you move with it, and how confident you feel when you hit record. With Osmo Rocket VX I wanted to mix that old Sony VX silhouette with a modern, modular body that can take a power bank inside, sit flat on a surface using the rocket rails, and run real cinema-style filters on the front.

This is how I like to design: start from a small camera and build a simple platform around it that makes the image better, the workflow smoother, and the whole experience more fun to use.
